Items and Upgrade Components in World of Warcraft
Upgrades can increase the value of armor and weapons. Upgrades to common and magic equipment are not worth it, as rare or unique items will soon surpass them.
An item can be upgraded up to six times. Each upgrade will increase the item gauge.
Glyphs

Items with upgrade components can't be used to make new items.
