World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses, such as PvE damage and crit chance.
For instance a weapon that has the upgrade template ending in % will suffer an attack damage of 3% each time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).
The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost rises with item's level.
Components
Upgrade components are items that can be put into armor, weapons and trinkets to provide a stat bonus or extra effect when they're used. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading with other players, or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components are only available to devices that have slots. The item must be upgraded to blue before the component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied once. They are not able to be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and Enrichments are a kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be retrieved by salvaging ascended gear or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.
A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's applied to (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of that equipment using less Upgrade Crystals than is required to achieve the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

When the player upgrades an item to a higher level, the original item is replaced with a different item of the same kind. The same armor will receive an weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will have a unique bonus. This could be a disadvantage, as the item can become more expensive even if you do not need it.
If the player has enough tokens, they can reroll item upgrades. This will cause the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will come with a level 1 base and a completely different set of bonus bonuses. This can be beneficial but it should not be used frequently as it can be a waste of resources.
Certain upgrades can increase their value and allow players to modify their gear. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants a buff if the player repeatedly enters or exits water.
